Skin boosters to improve your glow this winter including microneedling, mesotherapy, baby botox and polynucleotides

Skin boosters are a term used in the aesthetic industry to cover a range of different treatments and products that help skin rejuvenation and essentially give your skin that much needed boost. They are often tailored to your needs and customised to your skin type. Overall, they are a very well tolerated treatment by all patients and are a fantastic way to introduce yourself to injectable treatments when you are new to aesthetics and a little scared about needles!

One of the ways we boost the skin at Blackabeys is with a treatment called mesotherapy. We first of all numb your skin and use a medical grade microneedling pen to make tiny punctures in the skin barrier. Once we have done this we use a cocktail of different solutions designed specifically for you to massage into the skin gently. With the skin barrier being open from microneedling, the absorption of the skin booster or mesococktail is increased dramatically. On average, the absorption from skincare products is roughly around 20% however with the use of microneedling this can go up to a staggering 80%. This treatment is perfect not only for a fantastic skin boosting glow but is also fantastic at increasing cell turnover and new collagen production. This means that if you suffer from acne scarring, pigmentation, rosacea, skin texture, elasticity, fine lines and wrinkles this is a perfect addition to your at home skincare routine and can be repeated every 4-6 weeks to make sure you get all the benefits from your new skincare regime.

Another way of giving your skin some TLC this winter and to be honest, all year round is to inject tiny amounts of skin boosters to the skin to target specific areas. These injections have similar ingredients to dermal fillers but are injected in much smaller amounts and are combined with essential amino acids and peptides to boost your skin health overall as well as addressing fine lines, wrinkles, skin texture, elasticity and scarring. Your face is numb during this procedure so do not worry and like microneedling it is a great introduction for beginners to injectable treatments. The effect from these boosters are shorter and will often need repeating every few weeks. However, if you have an event such as a wedding or a special birthday to go to this can be a great way to boost your skin without the side effects of other injectables.

Other methods to boost skin health, which we are looking at introducing in the new year are MESOTOX (or BABY-Botox) and polynucleotides. These are not currently available but if you are interested make sure to contact us and we can add you to a special waiting list for new treatments becoming available.

Baby-Botox or Mesotox as it is sometimes referred to in news is when tiny little needles on a device (similar to a microneedling pen) is used to inject very small amounts of botulinum toxin (or botox as it is sometimes called) into the skin just under the superficial layer. This is used less for wrinkles on movement (which is what normal botox injections aim to target) but rather at reducing the size of pores, reducing oil production and aiding to reduce facial sweating. This can be really helpful for those with enlarged pores or very oily skin prone to acne. It is also used commonly to give the glass skin effect which is currently trending on social media. This is also done after applying numbing cream and if you are scared of the idea of having botox this might be a great introduction for you to this treatment if you are deemed suitable on consultation as it is well tolerated and does not have as many side effects to consider as standard botox.

Polynucleotides especially in the under-eye area are another great way to boost skin health without the risks of tear trough filler. Many men and women that suffer from dark circles, hollowness under the eye or fine lines and wrinkles underneath the eye. It is much better tolerated and because if is injected in very small amounts under the eye if does not have the same side effect profile as filler to the tear trough and causes less puffiness under the eyes after injection compared with standard dermal filler injections.

Skin boosters come in so many shapes and forms and are an excellent introduction to injectables. Also, compared with traditional injectables such as botulinum toxin (Botox) and dermal fillers; they provide more overall skin health benefits by boosting your own skin cells to rejuvenate. Skin rejuvenation therefore not only gives you the amazing initial glow that you dream of but also helps your skin and skincare routine in the long run - WINNER!!!!!

There is so much more exciting research in this field being released on a weekly basis that it is difficult to keep up! But don’t worry, Blackabey’s is always on the look out for exciting scientifically proven treatments which will benefit you so keep an eye out for more exciting news to come in the New Year.

And before I forget - Merry Christmas!
